Hyundai Test i30′s Durability With The Help Of 40 Baboons

Ever wonder how your car would hold up against a stampede of wild baboons? Well, wonder no more because Hyundai has put together the ultimate durability test involving 40 baboons.

Hyundai drove its latest i30 hatchback to Knowsley Safari Park and stopped it in the middle of the park. After that, the company let loose 40 baboons to test whether the car can really handle such extreme conditions. After leaving the car with the baboons for more than an hour, the world class auto maker drove out of the safari park having proved their point that the car indeed is monkey-proof.

Hyundai Elantra and Genesis Named “Best Values” by USAA

The United Services Automobile Association (USAA) named the 2012 Hyundai Elantra and Genesis as “Best Values.” The Elantra was also named as one of the 10 best cars for teens.

To determine the winners of the Best Value awards, the USAA rated vehicles in 16 different categories that included: cost, safety, reliability, and fuel economy. The Elantra and Genesis passed these inspections and test with flying colors.

The Elantra has now been on three major award list’s in the past few weeks: The USAA Best Values list, the USAA Top 10 Cars for Teens list, and the Kelley Blue Book 10 Best Green Cars list.

A few years ago, when they were still making a name for themselves, Hyundai was viewed as a low quality and cheap brand. Fast forward to the year 2012 and Hyundai’s are still inexpensive, but they are packing a lot of quality bang for their buck. Hyundai’s are selling like crazy and is now considered a major player in the automobile industry.

All New Hyundai Cars Will Have Throttle Override Capability

Hyundai shows off its safety leadership by implementing brake pedal throttle override capability into all new models in advance of pending government mandate.

The government mandate for brake pedal throttle override capability has been under consideration by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since April 2012. However, its final approval has yet to be determined. Hyundai development teams have decided not to wait for the final government mandate decision, focusing instead on the immediate safety of their customers.

With nearly all cars using electronic throttle control today, there remains a very small possibility for an unforeseen electronic throttle control malfunction. This could cause a vehicle to accelerate without hitting the gas pedal. Although very unlikely due to safety features already in most cars, unforeseen circumstances could still exist that could cause this type of malfunction. Hyundai isn’t taking any chances by making sure every new model has this new override system.

“With Hyundai’s brake pedal throttle override capability, any brake pedal input by the driver, even with a runaway throttle condition, completely overrides any throttle malfunction,” said Robert Babcock, director of certification and compliance affairs for Hyundai’s technical center.  ”It is no longer possible to have increasing engine power once the brake pedal is depressed by the driver. This adds a reassuring, incremental safeguard of control for Hyundai drivers.”

Hyundai has two cars in WardsAuto “10 Best Interiors” of 2012

The Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Azera are awarded with spots in WardsAuto “10 Best Interiors” of 2012.

High quality interiors are not just for luxury cars anymore, four subcompact or compact models, including the Hyundai Accent made the list this year. The Hyundai Accent is priced around $17,000, but as Ward’s put it, “we double-checked (the price) for a typo because this interior shows incredible attention to detail, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, swooping lines on the instrument panel and many of the Hyundai-family center-stack elements that have made interiors such as the Elantra, Veloster and Sonata so appealing.”

2012 Hyundai Azera
Ward’s Auto didn’t stop showing love to Hyundai there, they continued with high praise for Hyundai’s luxury car, the Azera. ”The Azera hails from the Hyundai design studios with flash, sizzle, substance and proof there is no substitute for premium materials.”

Ward’s continued to say that “The Azera serves notice to luxury brands everywhere that Hyundai aspires to be known for much more than great value.” The Azera also comes with heated and cooled front seats, a panoramic roof, and a motorized rear privacy shade.

Hyundai Grabs Best Value in America Honors

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Hyundai kept adding more awards to their name with four “Best Value in America” honors for the Hyundai Accent, Elantra, Genesis Coupe, and the Tucson.  Vincentric, an automotive data compilation and analysis firm, honored Hyundai with the awards for their four models.

The Hyundai Tucson won the Crossover Compact Entry-Level segment for the second year in a row.  The Accent won the subcompact category, Elantra in the compact sedan group, and Genesis Coupe in the Mid-Size Coupe segment.

Vincentric utilizes eight different values to determine the overall value of the vehicle.  The metrics they use include: depreciation, fuel, insurance, opportunity cost, financing, maintenance, taxes and sate fees, and repairs.

“Hyundai’s four Vincentric Best Value in America winners reflect the gains Hyundai has shown over the past several years in terms of sales, styling, and overall market acceptance,” said David Wurster, president, Vincentric. “This creates strong residual values, which in turn reduces depreciation cost, thereby lowering total cost of ownership for Hyundai vehicles.”
